Nu we dan eindelijk weer eens een kijkje zijn gaan nemen weten we dat het belangrijkste excuus om niet te gaan inmiddels nergens meer op slaat. Wij biljarten graag in de ambiance van een café en associeerden The Roadhouse tot voor kort toch meer met een echte biljarthal. Een misverstand! Stefan heeft de zaak in de tussentijd flink verbouwd, met als belangrijkste verschil dat er nu ook een grote rookruimte is waar biljarts staan, inclusief tafeltjes en loungebanken. Daar wordt, door het rookbeleid van de overheid, uiteraard niet bediend, maar de ruimte voelt voor de rest in alle opzichten als een zelfstandig café. Het is, sinds de opening, dan ook een groot succes. Veel jongere bezoekers komen daar in de weekenden graag een een paar uurtjes chillen, voordat ze het Middelburgse nachtleven induiken. De pooltafels zijn in de vroege avond doorlopend gereserveerd. Ook doordeweeks wordt er goed gebruik van gemaakt. Dat vonden we best bijzonder. In onze eigen middelbareschooltijd werd het niet veel gekker dan muziek, tekenen en lichamelijke oefening, maar tegenwoordig kun je dus ook leren snookeren, driebanden en poolen. En darten niet te vergeten, want dat kan natuurlijk ook in The Roadhouse. Toen de scholieren binnenkwamen dachten we even dat het niet goed zou gaan komen met de les, want we bespeurden nogal wat desinteresse bij de pubers, maar toen herinnerden we ons opeens weer dat je die houding nu eenmaal hebt, op die leeftijd. Toen de leerlingen eenmaal gingen spelen had Stefan er geen kind meer aan. Dat regelt zich bijna helemaal vanzelf. Ze werden nog enthousiaster toen ze in de pauze even met een limonade aan de bar konden gaan zitten. Maar vergis je niet: er zijn ook veel dames die er dol op zijn, en The Roadhouse organiseert ook evenementen waarbij vrouwen samen kunnen spelen, zonder betweterige kerels om zich heen. Zo is er op 19 maart a.s. de eerste Ladies Night. Dames kunnen die avond gratis darten, poolen, snookeren of biljarten. Dennis Geertse en Romy is in 2001 Poolcafe the Roadhouse begonnen.
